Winter A/C Preparation
The winter months are upon us and for many of us those months can be pretty brutal. Routine maintenance and preventive action can help the longevity of your a/c unit during the winter months.
Before the cold winters brace hits, test your furnace. Ideally you would like to choose a day where you can open all windows and doors. After a furnace sits for a while, once turned back on it can release a certain odor. Most furnaces come with a warranty. You want to make sure during the warranty you are having your furnace checked.
Make sure your thermostat is working properly. If you have a programmed thermostat in your home be sure to check all settings.
Most people ask about covering your outside unit. You do not have to cover your outside unit. A/C units are built to with stand harsh weather. Majority times, the cover creates a home for critters that can cause harm to the a/c unit wires if chewed.
Always replace any old filters. Be sure to inspect the area in which the filter is placed. Notify a technician if you see any mold or detached wires.
